Copenhagen Malmö Port Brings AI and Data Innovation to POTENT-X

POTENT-X is pleased to welcome Copenhagen Malmö Port (CMP) as a new project partner, bringing another major European port directly into the project’s Living Lab activities.

Connecting Denmark and Sweden at the gateway to the Baltic Sea, CMP combines port operations with an ambition to accelerate the green transition through innovation and partnerships. Its sustainability work already spans areas such as renewable electricity, shore power, energy efficiency, and emissions reduction.

As part of POTENT-X, CMP will take this work one step further by exploring how better data and artificial intelligence can support environmental reporting and smarter decision-making in ports.

From Fragmented Data to Decision-Ready Insights

Ports generate large amounts of environmental and operational data. But having data is not the same as being able to use it effectively.

At CMP, information on emissions, energy use, and consumption currently comes from different meters, terminal systems, and spreadsheets. Bringing this information together for environmental reporting can require considerable manual work.

CMP’s AI Data Hub pilot aims to address this challenge by bringing different sources of operational, environmental, and financial data together in a shared and governed platform.

A Living Lab for the Digital and Green Port Transition

The time-limited pilot, running in 2026, places environmental reporting at the centre of the first use case.

The Data Hub is intended to make environmental information easier to collect, structure, govern, and trace back to its source. This will improve CMP’s CO₂ reporting and dialogue with customers and other partners.

Once reliable data is available in a common platform, analytics and AI can potentially help CMP move from looking backwards at what happened to anticipating what may happen next.

For example, the pilot will explore opportunities to better understand energy consumption, including shore power and other high-impact areas; forecast energy-use patterns to improve planning; and identify operational bottlenecks and opportunities for greater efficiency.
